Dear Pamela
I did worry a bit that negativity would leave a stain. Your posts are always so positive and full of light. Nonetheless, trusting my truth, I thought the perspective would do no harm. When I had dogs, my sympathies were with them. They could not understand why the world was suddenly full of booms, the air suffuse by noxious fumes, and the sky lighting up with storms. Dogs don't see in color. and can not appreciate our pyrotechnic displays. I also have a problematic, ethical relationship to our inclination toward blind patriotism, intensified to raw fervor after the 9/11 tragedy. Few who profess militant allegiance to flag and country have any real knowledge of history, nor have they actually read the Declaration of Independence, much less studied the lives of the signers.

Somehow I knew you would understand, and I do love visiting your blog for the breath of fresh air you always provide.
